You stare at the stack trace for hours on end,
The error: a null you were sure wasn't there.
You add a
console.log, then add seventeen more,And log the whole call stack to thin, smoking air.
A semicolon? A space? A stray missing brace?
You blame the compiler, the OS, the moon. 🌕
You rubber-duck-debug to the plant on your desk —
And suddenly see it:
ishould've beenj. The fix is one character. One. Single. Glyph.
You lost Tuesday and most of your dignity too.
You push with a message that simply reads
"fix bug"And close forty tabs you had no memory of. 🙈
The tests go all green and the CI approves, ✅
You lean back and bask in that warm, fleeting glow.
A teammate asks: "Hey, what was actually wrong?"
You shrug and you type: "Not entirely sure, though."
Inspired by the universal developer rite of passage: spending 3 hours on a bug that turns out to be a one-character typo — and the humbling, glorious joy of those green checkmarks afterward.
